    Andrea's Angels Offers Relative Care

Relative care lets you keep care within the family. It allows you to choose a family member to be paid as your caregiver. By selecting a trusted relative, you maintain independence from the setting you love—home.

Relative care is an attractive option for older adults and people with disabilities. If you have support needs and prefer to place your trust in family, it can keep you out of a nursing home or long-term care facility.

    What Is Relative Care?

Relative care is in-home support with personal living tasks delivered by a family member. You choose a family caregiver who helps you complete day-to-day activities you cannot perform independently. The Medicaid-funded program pays your family caregiver for 8.5 hours of in-home personal care.

    Who is it suitable for?

Relative care can help you remain safe at home. You get support with daily living and household tasks to let you live your best life from home. Relative care is the right choice if you prefer a family member to help you complete everyday tasks.

Relative care is a valuable option for seniors (65 or older) or people with disabilities who trust family with their care. It is a great match for people who want family assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and grooming.

    What does it involve?

Relative care involves any nonmedical support that a family member can assist you with. It can include services like:

    • Personal Care. You get assistance with bathing, grooming, and toileting. Your family Caregiver will also help you select and put on appropriate clothing for the day.
    • Companionship. Your family Caregiver engages you in social activities and conversations. The emotional support your family member provides reduces feelings of isolation and loneliness.
    • Light Housekeeping. Your family caregiver helps with laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, and other household responsibilities. This ensures your home is safe and tidy.

    What You Gain

Relative care gives you companionship and assistance with everyday activities—from a family member you love. It means getting the personal attention you need from someone you love without sacrificing your independence.

The benefits of having a family Caregiver by your side include:

    • Familiarity and comfort – Getting care from a family member provides a higher level of emotional comfort. This makes it easier to adjust to your care needs.
    • Increased independence – Your family Caregiver helps you complete everyday tasks like walking, bathing, dressing, grooming, and preparing meals. You live as independently as possible with the added touch of care from someone you
      love.
    • Improved communication – Your family Caregiver gets you in ways others can’t. They understand your care needs and preferences and are the best equipped to deliver.
